Police arrest rapist in Kashmir

Srinagar May 11 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested a person who allegedly kidnapped and later raped a girl, a senior police officer said.

The Superintendent of Police, Handwara, said a written complaint was received from one Ghulam Mohammad Ganie that her daughter was kidnapped by one Mohammad Shafi Gazi on May 8.

He said an FIR was registered and a massive hunt launched to trace the girl.

During investigation, raids were conducted in Langate, Magam, Handwara, Sopore and Kupwara.

However, the accused was finally arrested along with the girl at Hadipora village on Handwara-Baramulla road.

He said the accused was arrested and the girl was handed over to her parents.
