Ruling BJP MLA stages sit-in over drought situation

Chhatarpur, MP, May 10 (UNI) Ruling BJP legislator Kapoorchand Ghuwara today staged a one-and-half-hour-long sit-in in front of the Collectorate office demanding relief for farmers in drought-hit areas here.

Mr Ghuwara, who represents Malehra assembly segment in the Vidhan Sabha and is the Chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Handicraft Development Corporation, submitted a memorandum stating the problems of farmers to the Collector.

Earlier, Mr Ghuwara staged a sit-in in front of the Collectorate office at 1200 hrs and was joined by hundreds of farmers.

He said farmers had been bearing the brunt of drought since the past 3-4 years and no compensation had been received so far this year.

He said the sit-in was staged to attract attention towards non-reimbursement pertaining to construction of wells under the government scheme 'Kapildhara'.

Party sources said Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan informed district BJP president Umesh Shukla that measures to tackle the drought situation would be discussed during his meeting with legislators in the state capital on Monday.
