Kidney kingpin Amit Kumar denied bail
Ambala, May 10 : An Ambala court has dismissed the bail applications of Amit Kumar, the main accused in multi-crore kidney transplant racket, and Linda, a nurse of Amit's hospital.
The court, however, granted bail to three other accused in the scam - Ramesh, Umesh and Suresh.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has charged Amit Kumar under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPL), including Section 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon), Section 342 (wrongful confinement), Section 420 (cheating) and Section 120B (criminal conspiracy).
It may be recalled that the 40-year-old tainted doctor was flown from Kathmandu to New Delhi on February 9 by a three-member CBI team. He was arrested in Chitwan in Nepal on February 7 and is wanted by the Haryana and Uttar Pradesh police in connection with an inter-state and international kidney transplant scam.
The CBI went through every transplant case and found that many patients were killed in the process of the transplant.
Amit and others have been charged under several sections, including violation of the Human Organ Transplant Act. They have been accused of having forced or duped around 500 people, mostly from the underprivileged sections of society, into donating their kidneys.
