Idea slashes STD and roaming charges, BSNL local charges

Shimla, May 10 (UNI) Aditya Birla's Idea Cellular has announced the slashing of STD and roaming charges for Himachal Pradesh, while public sector Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) slashed night local charges.

Idea slashed STD charges to Rs 1.30 per minute, while roaming charges for incoming and outgoing would be Re one per minute, Idea's chief marketing officer Pradeep Srivastava said in a release here.

He said the roaming charges for all STD rates would be Rs 1.50 per minute and the new tariff would be applicable from Monday.

On the other hand BSNL, the country's largest government sector mobile service provider, has also slashed night charges for its prepaid subscribers in the state.

The new charges for calls made from BSNL to BSNL mobile from midnight to 0400 hrs would be 15 paise per minute, while the charges for BSNL mobile to basic telephone would be 20 paise per minute.

However, the calls made from 1000 hours to midnight and from 0400 hrs to 0700 hrs would be a bit costlier at 30 paise per minute from BSNL to BSNL mobile and 40 paise per min from BSNL mobile to basic phone.

The slashing of the rates was likely to another trigger another price war among the mobile telecom companies in the region.
