Jalandhar, May 10 (UNI) Rail traffic on Jalandhar-Amritsar route was today distrupted for nearly 11 hours due to derailment of an engine and two bogies of Amritsar-bound Jananayak Express (eds.correct) just after it left the Jalandhar City railway station early today.

Ferozepur Circle Additional Divisional Railway Manager said that an engine and two bogies of the Amritsar bound Sahasra-Amritsar Jananayak Express (5211) derailed at 0230 hrs near Damoria bridge just outside the city railway station. However, no one was injured in the incident, he added.

Due to the derailment, both up and down tracks were damaged and nearly eight trains coming from Amritsar were the most affected, he said adding that six trains coming from Ludhiana side were also diverted to Amritsar via Pathankot from Jalandhar Cantt railway station itself.

Delhi-bound down track was restored around 1330 hours and Amritsar-Delhi Shatabdi had just passed, the Railway Manager informed, adding that the other trains which remained stranded at some distance from the city include Sachkhand Express, Amritsar-New Delhi Superfast Exress among others. However, railway authorities at Ludhiana and other stations refunded the ticket amount of the passenger who were to board these trains but got delayed due to the incident, he added.

The rail traffic on Amritsar-bound up track had also been restored, he said, adding that the exact cause of the derailment was yet to be ascertained as inquiry has been marked into the incident.
