Darshan Singh Ragi declared "Tankhiya"
Amritsar, May 10 (UNI) Former Akal Takht Jathedar Prof Darshan Singh Ragi was today declared ''Tankhiya'' (guilty of religious misconduct) by Takht Patna Sahib Jathedar Giani Iqbal Singh for violating the edict issued by Akal Takht High Priests in connection with the religious granth (Darshan Granth).
Jathedar Iqbal Singh, who presided over a meeting of five priests at the takht in this connection, stated that Prof Darshan Singh, despite having the knowledge of such edict, had made remarks against theGranth at a function in Delhi. The edict was issued from the highest temporel seat of sikhs, Akal Takht, on November 27, 2006 and May 14, 2000, in which restrictions were imposed for making any sort of comments on Darshan Garnth which have the teaching (Bani) of tenth Guru Gobind Singh.
He was given an opportunity to clear his stand and was summoned to the takht for today but he failed to do so. As a result, the Sikh Clergy took this decision.
Prof Darshan Singh Ragi remanded Jathedar of Akal Takht during the peak hour of militancy in Punjab in 1987.
