Armed dacoits decamp with booty

Tirupati, May 10 (UNI) A four-member armed gang today robbed gold ornaments, cash, cell phones and a car from the house of a professor in Sri Venkateswara University Engineering College at Vidyanagar colony near here.

Police said, the dacoits entered the house by breaking the ventilator grills and tied all the family members before collecting the booty.

The dacoits, who were conversing in Telugu and Tamil, threatened the professor, who tried to raise an alarm. They gagged his mouth and beat him up with a rod.

Before fleeing, they locked the house from outside and escaped in the professor's car.

The incident occurred between 0300 hrs to 0500 hrs and they complained to the police after one hour, police added.
