Plus 2 pass percentage dips 4% in Pondy, girls shine

Puducherry, May 9 (UNI) The Union Territory reported a four per cent decline in pass percentage in the Plus Two Examinations held this year compared to last year with the girls faring better than the boys.

Education Minister M O H F Shajahan told the press here today that 9,369 candiates of the total 10,922, who appeared for the examination, passed recording a pass percentage of 76.63 per cent compared to 80.66 per cent last year.

Stating girls fared better than the boys, Mr Shajahan said 4,637 of a total of 5,794 girls cleared the examination while 3,732 boys of the 5,128, who wrote the examination, passed.

Srivardhan of Petetite Seminare Higher Secondary School top scored with 1,183 marks while Ibrahim Asif and Balaji of the same school scored 1,178 and 1,174 marks respectively to bag the second and third spots.

A student each from Don Bosco Higher Secondary School and Saint Patric Higher Secondary School also scored 1,174 marks sharing the third place with Balaji.

Eleven private schools reported cent percent result and an equal number of government schools would get a cash award of Rs one lakh for securing 100 per cent results (in the town) and above 90 per cent (in rural areas).
