Plea for banana export centre

Tiruchirapalli, May 9: The Tiruchirapalli Farmers Wing of the Congress has appealed to the Tamil Nadu Government to establish a banana export centre here to enable banana growers to market their produce for a good price.

In a memorandum to the State Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S Arumugam, a copy of which was made vailable to press here today, Farmers Wing President Puliyur A Nagarajan also said the expoort centre was essential as there were a lot of land brought under the banana cultivation in and around Tiruchirapalli District.

He also wanted the government to establish a cold storage facility here to help the flouriculture farmers.
