JMM leaders arrested; Angry supporters block railways track, road

Jamshedpur, May 9 (UNI) Hundreds of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) supporters today blocked railway tracks at Ghatshila and Chakulia railway stations and jammed roads at Hata and Mango areas to protest the arrest of Jamshedpur JMM MP Suman Mahto and other leaders.

Ms Mahto along with JMM leaders Mohan Karmakar,Bidyut Mahto,Ramdas Soren, Roria Soren and dozen of party activists were arrested from Ganesh Puja Maidan at Kadma area today when they forcibly tried to install the slain JMM MP Sunil Mahto's statue at the disputed area violating section 144 Cr PC.

The JMM activists took to the streets in several areas as soon as the news of arrest of their leaders spread.

Police initiated a prompt action and dispersed the agitated JMM activists. A large number of Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel were also deployed in the area and senior officials, including Dhalbhum subdivisional officer Ranjan Chowdhury, were camping in the area.

However,tension was prevailing in the area following the incident.

The East Singhbhum district administration imposed prohibitory order under Section 144 Cr P C two months back when the JMM encroached a land and began constructing a structure, but the district administration stopped the illegal construction and deployed force.

But as the forces were withdrawn and the prohibitory order lifted the party leaders today made an abortive attempt to install a bust of the slain leader at the disputed spot.

Mr Mahto and four of his body guards were gunned by the Maoists at Bhaguria village on March 4 last year.

Mr Mahto's wife Suman Mahto won the by-election last year.
