Imposters posing as Sales Tax Officers held
Amritsar, May 9 (UNI) Police today arrested a four-member gang which used to pose as fake Sales Tax Officials on the outskirts and highways around the city to decamp with vehicle laden with goods.
According to police, on a tip-off, a police party from Chheharta conducted a raid at the by-pass near Dera Baba Darshan Singh Gurudwara where the gang had put up a fake naka and was indulging in checking of vehicles.
While all the four, identified as Makhtool Singh, Sukhwinder, Harjinder Singh and Kalu, were arrested on the spot, their fifth accomplice identified as Jagtar Singh managed to escape.
An SUV with a red beacon was also recovered from their possession. Two rifles and some fake receipt books of Sales tax Department were also recovered from them.
On their confession, police party raided village Dhaul and recovered tyres worth Rs 6.40 lakh, which they had stolen recently after bullying a truck driver regarding documents of the vehicle.
The truck was abandoned near village Aliwal Batala.
Police have registered cases under section 419,420, 384, 170, 467, 468, 471 pf tje IPC. Further investigations were on and more looted material was expected to be recovered.
