Gas victims will manufacture clothes

Bhopal, May 9 (UNI) In a bid to provide employment to the survivors of Bhopal Gas Tragedy, Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Udyog Sangthan would start manufacturing readymade clothes as per the market demand.

Sanghthan Convenor Abdul Jabbar told reporters here today that training would be imparted to the gas-affected women by the Mahila Training Organisation, Madhya Pradesh Handicraft and Handloom Development Corporation and Swabhiman Training Organisation. ''Textile Ministry's Apparel Training and Designing Centre is providing training to 60 women for three months and after training job will be provided to them,'' he said.

Mr Jabbar said that the organisation would start manufacturing garments especially 'gents wear' from August, 2008 under the brand of 'Swabhiman'. Madhya Pradesh Gas Tragedy Relief Department had provided financial assistance of Rs 1.68 lakh. A target has been set to train 100 people and provide job to 500 people a year.

''Swabhiman Organisation has trained more than 4,000 people in sewing, soft toys, paper bags and computer while half of them are employed so far,'' he added.
