Cops arrest chain snatchers of western suburbs
Mumbai, May 9 (UNI) City police today arrested two notorious criminals, who are wanted in several cases of chain snatching in the western suburbs and recovered jewellery worth Rs 4.5 lakhs from them.
The modus operandi of the duo had been to target morning walkers, especially women from a bike or an autorickshaw.
The first accused - Rehmat Tulla Bhan Shiekh has as many as 25 cases of chain snatching against him, including a stint in jail in 1989. Sheikh was also awarded a 10 year imprisonment for firing at the police while being chased.
His accomplice Sunil Duttaram Satpal,(34) was also arrested by the Santa Cruz police and kept in custody last year, in a case of chain snatching.
Both have been remanded in police custody till May 13.
