Indian carpet industry in crisis

Bhadohi, May 07th 2008 : India"s traditional carpet industry at Bhadohi, an important carpet manufacturing centre in UP known for its hand knit carpets and Hand Tufted Carpets is facing a severe crisis in the wake of the global economic slowdown leading to small exporters and getting wiped out and the large exporters finding it difficult to cope.

The total combined carpet exports of Bhadohi till two years back was estimated at 22 billion rupees per year.
