Unitech applies for long distance licences
New Delhi, May 7 (UNI) Country's leading real estate firm Unitech Ltd today said its unit has applied for licences from the government to provide national and international long distance services.
''Our subsidiary company has applied to the Department of Telecommunications for issuance of licences for International Long Distance (ILD) Services and National Long Distance (NLD) services,'' a company statement said.
Recently, it had received spectrum to start mobile services in Orissa. It received 4.4 MHz of spectrum in 1,800 MHz GSM band in respect of Orissa Service Area.
Unitech has already got licences to provide mobile and fixed-line services in all of the 22 circles through eight of its units.
A long distance licence will enable Unitech to carry intra-circle calls on its own network, rather than using carrier services offered by companies such as Bharti Airtel.
