SC to pronounce judgement on Venugopal's plea tomorrow

New Delhi, May 7 (UNI) The Supreme Court will tomorrow pronounce its verdict on former All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Director P Venugopal's petition challenging Parliament's decision to fix 65 years as the retirement age for the post of the Institute's director.

A bench headed by Justice Tarun Chatterjee will decide the constitutional validity of AIIMS (Amendment) Act, 2007, fixing the retirement age of the institute's director at 65 or maximum tenure of five years.

Prof Venugopal had challenged the validity of the Act on the grounds of malifide and hostile discrimination against an individual.

Notably, Union Health Minister A Ramadoss and Dr Venugopal have been at logger heads and the Health Ministry has been trying its level best to remove Dr Venugopal.

At present, Dr D T Dogra is the Acting Director of AIIMS.
