Railway revenue earnings up 16.73 per cent during April
New Delhi, May 7 (UNI) Railways's earnings on originating basis during April were pegged at Rs. 6420.59 crore compared to Rs.
5500.40 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 16.73 per cent.
The goods earnings went up from Rs. 3680.64 crore to Rs. 4391.55 crore during the period -- an increase of 19.31 per cent.
The passenger revenue earnings were Rs. 1793.98 crore compared to Rs. 1616.69 crore during the same period last year, showing an increase of 10.97 per cent.
The revenue earnings from other coaching and sundry amounted to Rs. 235.06 crore during April this year while it was Rs. 203.07 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 15.75 per cent.
The number of passengers booked during April this year were 572.64 million compared to 538.42 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 6.36 per cent.
In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during April 2008 were 300.59 million and 272.05 million compared to 291.74 million and 224.59 million during the same period last year, an increase of 3.03 per cent and 10.28 per cent respectively.
