Goswami expresses satisfaction over boundary work
Guwahati, May 07 (UNI) Leader of Opposition in Assam Assembly Brindabon Goswami today expressed satisfaction over the ongoing fencing and border road work along the Indo-Bangladesh boundary.
Mr Goswami, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), had recently led a PAC delegation of the House to take stock of the progress of the boundary work.
He was accompanied by other Committee members, including Mr Gobinda Ch Langthasa, Md Anuwarul Haque and Mr Parimal Suklabadiya.
Addressing a press conference here at the AGP headquarter, the PAC Chairman said the PAC had specifically focussed on the Indo-Bangladesh boundary work.
He informed that total boundary length is 267 km of which 42 km are riverine.
'' In the remaining 225 km, border fencing and border roads are being constructed. Ninetyfive per cent work has been completed and as per the assurance given by the PWD officials, the remaining works are expected to be completed by the end of this month, '' he said.
Regarding fencing, he said, '' The entire fencing length is 183 km. Of that three km cannot be touched because of land dispute, while in another three km, it could not be constructed due to erosion. Otherwise fencing for 160 km has been completed and the rest are expected to be completed by May 15. For the fencing work Rs 300 crore has been sanctioned. '' This was noteworthy that both border fencing and road work were being done as per the Assam Accord, signed way back in 1985.
