Family tries to self immolate before police

Tiruchirapalli, May 7 (UNI) Tension prevailed for a while at the police commissionarate here today, as a three-member-family of a history sheeter attempted to self immolate protesting against the alleged police torture.

Police said, Pandiyan (27) hailing from Srirangam, who involved in more than ten theft cases and also a former detainee under Goondas Act, was recently released on bail.

Pandiyan along with his wife Gayatri (22) and their son Sukumar (1) came to the police commissionarate and attempted to self immolate themselves aftrr pouring kerosene on them.

However, all the three were arrested, police added.
