Cong will fulfill its election promises: Sonia

Bangalore, May 7: Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi today assured that her party was committed to fulfill the promises made in the election manifesto for the Assembly elections in Karnataka. Addressing a public meeting here, she said that Congress is the only party which has never compromised its ideologies and committed for the over all development of the country.

Referring to achievements of Karnataka especially in IT and BT sector, Ms Gandhi attributed its credit to the efforts of her husband and former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi. " Rajiv Gandhi had a great dream to build the country one of the most powerful in the world and he chose to introduce IT and BT. The opposition which ridiculed the same earlier are now trying to take credit for the achievements.

Referring to achievements of UPA government led by her party at the Centre, she said that Congress has exhibited its commitment for the empowerment of women by tabling Women Reservation bill in Rajya Sabha yesterday. UPA government has also taken measures to protect the interests of oppressed classes in the society and passed the Tribal Welfare Bill and taken several other measures to ensure growth and benefit to all members of the society.

She said that the Congress party in Karnataka will take all the measures to tide over the power crisis and infrastructure shortcomings.
