APCC ridicules TDP's allegations on Babli project

Hyderabad, May 7 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today ridiculed the charge of opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu that the state govenrment had not taken any steps to stop the illegal construction of the Babli project by the Maharashtra government.

Addressing a press conference here, party spokesperson N Tulasi Reddy alleged that the previous TDP government had given the administrative sanction in 1995, for the project.

He said the state government had taken several measures to stop the illegal construction of the project by the Maharashtra government as it affects the Telangana region.

Following this the Central Water Commission and the Union Ministry of Water Resources had ordered the Maharashtra government to stop the construction of the project, he claimed.

Mr Reddy said the matter was also pending in the Supreme Court, which in its interim orders had instructed the Maharashtra government to stop the construction of the gates and allow free flow of river water.
