Union Ministry issues notification to check wheat hoarding
Chandigarh, May 6 (UNI) The Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution has issued a notification to check hoarding of wheat and prevent possible evasion of taxes.
The notification titled "Wheat (Stock Declaration by Companies or Firms or Individuals) Order 2008 has been issued under section 3 of Essential Commodities Act.
According to an official spokesman of the Punjab government this order provides for mandatory submission of returns by a company/firm/individual to purchasing wheat in excess of 10,000 MT (total purchase made throughout the country during Rabi Marketing Season 2008-09) to the Secretary Food of the state from where maximum quantity has been purchased, on a specified performa.
The spokesman added that in case purchase of wheat exceeds 25000 MT, the return would be filed before a (notified) Under Secretary level officer of the central government.
