Two bofors live fuses create panic in south Kashmir
Srinagar, May 6 (UNI) Panic gripped a village in south Kashmir when two live Bofors fuses were detected, official sources said today.
They said as people were busy in their daily work, seven live fuses created panic in village Nowgam.
Police was informed and those present in the area were taken to safe places.
Later, Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) destroyed the fuses on the spot without causing any damage.
This was the second time live fuses were recovered in south Kashmir during the past five days. On May, seven fuses were recovered at village Sombrunna Kanal.
More than a dozen live fuses were destroyed by the BDS during the past one month in villages around the Khandroo, where thousands of Bofors and other shells were destroyed in devastating fire in Field Ammunition Depot in August last year.
After the fire was controlled in the depot thousands of unexploded shells were defused by about 100 BDS in about a dozen adjacent villages. However, hundreds still unexploded shells remained in these villages and paddy and other fields.
About 20 people, mostly fire-fighters of Army, were killed and 50 others wounded in the incident.
