Sikkim demands fully operational Gangtok Doordarshan

Gangtok, May 6 (UNI) Despite Sikkim government and Opposition political parties repeated reminders to the Centre, the Gangtok Doordarshan Kendra is yet to be fully operational.

The Kendra had been set up in November 2004 and has been awaiting the formal inauguration to become a full fledged centre, much to the dismay of the state government which has been vigorously pursuing the matter with the Centre.

Chief Minister Pawan Chamling had already communicated to the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on several occasions highlighting the need for a fully operational Gangtok Doordarshan Kendra.

Governor Sudrashan Agarwal has also taken the matter with concerned minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi for his timely intervention so that the developmental activities of the state and other information could reach the people of Sikkim, a release said.
