Rupee slips, opens at 40.65/66 against per USD

Mumbai, May 6: Rupee today resumed a low at 40.65/66 against per USD with a small loss of four paise from it last close of 40.61 on modest Dollar purchased by oils corporate sectors and some foreign banks.

Traders said, ''Rupee fell to eight-month's low on as oil refiners stepped up Dollar buying after oil hit a record high, adding to worries about a widening trade deficit and slowing capital inflows. Later it fluctuated in a narrow range and quoted between at 40.65 and 40.72 per Dollar, and nearly a quarter of a per cent weaker than yesterday's close of 40.61/62 per Dollar. The Rupee was trading at its lowest since mid-March and if it fell further 40.84 per Dollar then it would be at its weakest, dealers added.
