Pondy Govt to evolve textile policy to generate employment
Puducherry, May 6(UNI) Puducherry administration would soon evolve a textile policy, which would ensure more employment opportunities here, Industries Minister V Vaithilingam told the assembly today.
Replying to a question, Mr Vaithilingam said a Committee had been constituted for the purpose and steps would be taken to evolve a policy after getting its suggestion.
The Minister said in a bid to encourage setting up of Industries here, administration was providing a subsidy to the tune of 25 per cent, if women set-up their units here. An uninterrupted power supply and quality power would also be provided, he added.
To the charges from members Siva and Nazim(both DMK) that no major Industries were started in the recent past due to abolition of all concessions, including tax holidays, Mr Vaithiingam said the Government was not in a position to provide required land to the major Industrial units, who were seeking 500 to 1000 acres, and it was decided that the Government would not acquire land for Industries and would pay equity for the land purchased by them.
