Cong alleges code violation in Amritsar assembly bypoll
Chandigarh, May 6 (UNI) The opposition Congress today alleged that the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)-BJP were indulging in brazen violation of the model code of conduct unabated at Amritsar.
The Congress made this allegation with reference to the bypoll to the Amritsar South assembly constituency to be held on May 22.
In a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, Congress spokesman Bir Devinder Singh claimed that development works were being carried out in the constituency on war footing to influence the voters in favour of ruling party candidate. The letter further alleged that the violations were being committed by Amritsar Municipal Corporation Commissioner D P S Kharbanda.
The letter mentioned that the Commissioner was a close associate, classmate and friend of Mr Shawet Malik who is the Mayor of Amritsar. The letter demanded that Mr Kharbanda be shifted immedieately to ensure a free and fair poll.
