Centre defends OBC reservation in higher educational institutions
New Delhi, May 6 (UNI) The Government today apprised the Delhi High Court that it took the decision of granting OBC reservation in higher educational institutions only after the Supreme Court's judgement.
Appearing before the Bench of Justices T S Thakur and Siddharth Mridul, Additional Solicitor General Gopal Subramaniam said the recentjudgement of Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court had given the green signal to the Centre to provide OBC reservation in higher educational institutions.
Opposing a petition filed by IIM alumni, Mr Subramanium contended, ''The matter stands concluded and the contention raised by anti-quota activists, that the benefit of reservation cannot be provided to a candidate after passing graduation, is wrong.
''The operational part of the judgement does not mention the exclusion of reservation to the graduates'' he added.
