Biman concerned over demand for a separate state of Darjeeling
Kolkata, May 6 (UNI) Left Front Chairman Biman Bose today expressed serious concern over the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) demand for a separate state of Darjeeling.
In a statement here, Mr Bose said the GJM activists were now trying to spread the agitation in the plains of Siliguri and Dooars and asserted that the movement was bound to shatter the prevailing unity and harmony among the people of the hills and the plains.
Mr Bose, also the CPI(M) State Secretary, iterated that several sinister and secessionist forces were in collusion with the GJM agitators, who were bent on creating bottlenecks in the path of development in the state.
He called upon the administration and police to spare no pains to keep the peaceful atmosphere intact and charged the Opposition BJP, Trinamool Congress and Congress with complicating the situation.
'' The Left Front sincerely advocates for the socio-economical progress of the Gorkhas and Nepalies. The agitators should sit for a discussion with the Union and State Governments for finding a solution by according more autonomy to them, '' he clarified.
