AIADMK stages walkout in Pondy Assembly

Puducherry, May 6 (UNI) The AIADMK members today staged a walkout in the Puducherry Territorial Assembly, amid confusion, alleging that right to speech is being denied to AIADMK member Om Sakthi Sekhar.

As soon as Deputy Speaker A V Sreedharan, who was in the chair, invited AIADMK member A Anbazhagan to take part in the discussion on demand for grants for various departments, Mr Sekhar was on his feet, bringing to the notice of the House that many of his questions were postponed and a calling attention motion given notice of by him was not taken up.

He said there were a lot of problems in his constituency to be brought to the notice of the Government. However, right to speech was being denied to him and protesting this, the AIADMK was staging a walk out.

Mr Anbazhagan, who was ready to deliver his speech, was initially reluctant to stage a walkout and then sought permission from Mr Sreedharan for a minute to begin his speech. He, along with the other AIADMK member Omalingam, went out of the House. Mr Anbazhagan, however, returned to the House within seconds and began his speech.
