Youth Congress whips George Bush in effigy

Kochi, May 5 (UNI) Ernakulam District Youth Congress leaders today whipped an effigy of US President George Bush to protest against his remarks that prosperity in India was the reason behind the world food crisis.

Inaugurating a protest meeting here, District Youth Congress President Eldose Kunnapilly said ''the US pales before the age-old Indian tradition and they have no right to dictate terms on us.'' ''Mr Bush should understand that India had the history of gaining Independence by defeating imperialist forces through self-belief and not through brute force,'' he added.

Mr Eldose was reacting to a recent statement by Mr Bush that the prosperity in India's middle class had triggered higher food prices across the globe.

DCC President V J Paulose inaugurated the protest rally.
