Woman among four held with fake currency worth Rs 7.25 lakh
Jalandhar, May 5 (UNI) Punjab Police has arrested four people and seized counterfeit currency notes worth Rs 7.25 lakh from them here.
Senior Superintendent of Police Arpit Shukla said here this evening that a police party on prior information, yesterday arrested three people, identified as Sukhchain Singh, Paramjit Singh of village Tiggowal in Amritsar district and Payal Bhatia of Dhandra Road, Ludhiana, from a car when they were distributing the fake currency notes among themselves at Dussehra ground, Jalandhar Cantt. The vehicle used in the crime was also impounded, he added.
However, their fourth accomplice, Balwinder Singh, who managed to escape was today arrested from the PAP Chowk here, he said.
Mr Shukla said at least ten cases were registered at different police stations against the kingpin Sukhchain Singh, including that of bomb blasts, seizure of RDX and others related to terrorist activities.
He informed that Sukhchain had links with Pakistan-based Khalistan Commando Force chief Paramjit Singh Panjwar and was released from jail in 2006. The woman member of the gang too was earlier booked under NDPS Act and had remained in Ludhiana jail, he added.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused had revealed that consignment of the fake currency notes were given to them by one Lahore-based Bashir, he said adding that the culprits were booked under sections 420 and 489 of the IPC and further investigations were on.
