Tenders invited for rail coach factory at Rae Bareli

Lucknow, May 5 (UNI) About 14 months after laying of the foundation of the ambitious Railway Coach Factory at Rae Bareli,the parliamentary constituency of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Railway ministry has floated a global tender inviting Request for Qualification(RFQ) in the joint venture for this new coach factory.

Ms Gandhi, along with Railway minister Laloo Prasad, had laid the foundation of the rail coach factory at Lalganj in her constituency on February 13, 2007.

However,the Railway Ministry today published the RFQ inviting the private companies for setting up a new Rail Coach Factory at Rae Bareli in joint venture for manufacturing and supplying of Passenger coaches to Indian Railway.The interested companies would be able to purchase RFQ till June 6 next from tomorrow.

The new coach building plant at Rae Bareli will have an installed capacity to manufacture 1000 coaches per annum with latest manufacturing systems at optimum costs. It would produce state-of-the-art coaches with pleasing interiors, longer life span and higher comfort level.

This would be the third rail coach factory of Indian Railways best the first one in Uttar Pradesh. The project would cost around Rs 2200 crore with Public-Private Participation(PPP).

The area of this project is expected to be 476 hectares and about 3000 local people will get direct or indirect employment. The rail coach manufacturing unit will consist of a workshop spread over 138 hectares, a colony spread over 339 hectares, along with other facilities for staff welfare.

Earlier there was some dispute in acquiring the land by the state government for the purpose but later it was sorted out with the help of the centre.
