Nine nominations filed for Amritsar South bypoll
Amritsar, May 5 (UNI) A total of nine candidates have filed their nomination papers from the Amritsar South Assembly constituency, the bypoll for which will be held on May 22.
Seven candidates filed their papers today, the last date of filing of nominations, official sources here said.
Prominent amongst those who filed their papers today were Navdeep Goldie (Cong), Bhai Ram Singh of the Akali Dal (Amritsar) and Satnam Singh Kanda of the All India Shiromani Akali Dal (AISAD). Hardish Kaur, filed her papers as covering candidate for Goldie.
The others, who filed their papers independently were Sharanjit Singh, Tejinder Singh and Rajiv Sharma.
The ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate Inderbir Singh had filed his papers on Friday last. His mother, Harinder Kaur had filed her papers as covering candidate.
Scrutiny of nominations will take place tomorrow and withdrawls will be on Wednesday.
The bypoll was necessitated following the death of Raminder Singh Bolaria, who had won this seat as a nominee of the SAD in the February elections last year.
