Mother murders daughter, attempts suicide

Vadodara, May 5 (UNI) A middle-aged woman killed her teenaged daughter and then tried to commit suicide today, police said.

Urmila Mukutbihari Ankodiya (45) slashed the throat of her daughter Shikha (14) with a blade and then tried to commit suicide with the same blade and injured her leg and wrist seriously.

Her husband Mukutbihari is missing from the house since morning, police said. Her second daughter Sonal and son Vishal, seeing Urmila and Shikha bleeding, raised an alarm.

Both the mother and daughter were rushed to a hospital, where Shikha was pronounced dead on arrival.

Urmila is still unconscious and hence police have not been able to take her statement.
