Lt General Prakash is new Defence Secretary

New Delhi, May 5 (UNI) Lt General Avadhesh Prakash has taken over as new Military Secretary.

A veteran of the 1971 Indo-Pak conflict, Lt General Prakash is the only Army officer to have held two tenures at the Indian Military Training Team (IMTRAT) in Bhutan, initially as instructor and later as the Commandant of the Training Team between June, 2005 and September, 2007.

On being promoted to the rank of Lt General, he was appointed director general Information System (DGIS) of the Indian Army.

Born on January 26, 1950, Prakash did his schooling from Sainik School, Lucknow and joined NDA in 1969. He was commissioned into 1st battalion of the Naga Regiment. He later went on to command the Battalion.

Besides his tenure at IMTRAT, the Lt General has also held several important instructional appointments, including Instructor Infantry School, Mhow and College of Combat, also at Mhow.

He has been awarded the Ati Vishisth Sewa Medal (AVSM) and Vishisth Sewa Medal (VSM).
