Govt to start virtual class rooms at 20 centres

Puducherry, May 5 (UNI) The Puducherry administration would start virtual class rooms at 20 centres as a pilot project from June this year, Education Minister M O H F Shajahan told the assembly today.

Replying to a question Mr.Shajahan said the centres would be connected through Edu-Sat, for which union territory had already obtained slots from Tamil Nadu. Connecting cable was expensive and edu sat is the fastest,easiest and cost-effective method, he added.

To another question, power minsiter V Vaithilignam said a Rs 25 crore budget had been prepared for overall development of electricity sector in Puducherry and Karaikal regions. Equipments and accessories were being purchased as an overdraft to the tune of Rs eight crore and money was being remitted as and when collected, he added.

The minister said Rs 30 crore more than target collection was achieved in the department last year.

Mr Vaithilingam said more purchasing power would be granted to the executive engineer at Karaikal.
