Efforts on to trace woman for kidnapping baby boy

Puducherry, May 5 (UNI) Police were on the lookout for a woman, who allegedly abducted a seven-day-old boy from the Jipmer Hospital here today.

Police said Geetha (28) of Villuppuram gave birth to a boy on 28th April and since she was to undergo another surgery, baby and the mother were allowed to stay in the hospital.

Meanwhile, Geetha was taken to operation theatre two days back.

Before proceeding to theatre, she handed over the child to her mother, Lakshmi. Laxmi, anxious to know the condition of her daughter, asked another woman, who was standing neaby, to take care of the baby and proceeded to attend to her daughter.

However, when Laxmi returned, she found to her dismay that the woman and child were missing.

A case had been registered and an investigation was, underway, police added.
