Cong to support LJS candidate in Davanagere

Bangalore, May 5 (UNI) Congress will support the candidature of Lok Jan Shakti(LJS) led by Ram Vilas Paswan in the May 16 Assembly elections to Davanagere seat, AICC General Secretary Prithviraj Chavan said today.

Talking to newspersons here, he said since Congress could not field any candidate on 'B' form issue, the party had decided to support United Progressive Alliance(UPA) coalition partner.

It may be recalled here that Mr Safiullah, who was given B form by the Congress, had handed over the document to another leader S S Mallikarjuna by striking off his name and writing the latter, following a violent protest for denial of ticket to the former minister.

However, the returning officer rejected B form stating that the correction of name did not have attestation from competitive authority of the party.

In a loss of face, Congress had lost the seat even before polling took place.
