BSNL targets 1.26 cr GSM connections in FY09

New Delhi, May 5 (UNI) State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) plans to add 1.26 crore mobile connections in its area of operation during FY09.

BSNL has plans to add 1,26,00,000 connection of cellular mobile (GSM) in its area of operation during 2008-09'' Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Jyotiraditya Scindia said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha today.

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) plans to add a switching capacity of 10 lakh and total net connection of 9.5 lakh all types (PSTN, GSM and WLL) in 2008-09, he added.

BSNL had 3,62,11,786 mobile phone users in its area of operation as on March 31, 2008w while the number of mobile phone connections with MTNL stood at 32,41,851.
