3G spectrum in 2.1 GHz band to be allotted through e-auction

New Delhi, May 5 (UNI) The government today said 3G spectrum in the 2.1 GHz band would be allotted, through a controlled, simultaneous ascending e-auction, to the successful bidders.

''The Government has announced broad guidelines for 3G services which would be permitted in the 2.1 GHz band and the spectrum would be allotted, through a controlled, simultaneous ascending e-auction, to the successful bidders,'' Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Jyotiraditya Scindia said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.

The 3G (3rd generation) mobile telecommunications is the generic name for the next generation of mobile networks that combines wireless mobile technology with high data rate transmission capabilities.

The 3G network is capable of providing higher data rates and is also capable of supporting a variety of services such as high-resolution video and multi media services in addition to voice, fax and conventional data services.
