Bandh disrupts normal life in Purulia district

Purulia, May 5: Normal life was disrupted today in the Bandwan block of Purulia district following the 12-hour bandh called by the CPI(M) to protest the attack on a local leader of the party and his accomplice by Maoist ultras yesterday.

Police said the bandh was peaceful with no untoward incident reported so far.

A gang of Maoist ultras shot dead a zonal committee member of the CPI(M) Ganapati Bhadra and critically wounded local committee member Rampada Majhi at Bhomrahgarh village under Bandwan police station.

The duo were returning home after an election meeting when a gang of armed men attacked them and shot at them.

The three-tier Panchayat polls would be held in Purulia district on May 11. Police suspect that it was the handywork of Maoists from Jharkhand border possibly from East Singbhum.

Police said the condition of Rampada Majhi was stable now.
