Showers bring mercury level down in Jammu
Jammu, May 4 (UNI) The long dry spell was today ended when rainfall lashed the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir this evening bringing down the mercury level.
Though the showers brought some respite to the people, they sweated it out as the maximum temperature continued to remain above 40 degrees Celsius for the last couple of days.
''With toady's spell of showers, the mercury level, which was four to five degrees Celsius above normal, has come down and returned the smiles on the faces of young and old making the weekend pleasant,'' an official told UNI.
The children danced in the rains and many came out of their houses to enjoy the evening walk. However, normal life here was severely affected as mercury today mounted to the season's highest at 42.9 degrees Celsius.
It being a weekend break in offices on Sunday, a majority of people preferred to stay indoors and only a few vehicles plied on city roads in the afternoon.
