Punjab govt in the process of revising minimum wages
Chandigarh, May 4 (UNI) The Minimum Wages Board constituted by the Punjab Government is in process of revising minimum wages, Labour Minister Tikshan Sood said here today.
The Minister described as incorrent news reports suggesting that minimum wages in Punjab had been revised to Rs 3300 per month.
He said that the government on advice of the Minimum Wages Board would revise the minimum wages shortly.
The Minister said that the minimum wages were to be revised in 2006 but the then Congress government did not take any step in this direction. The SAD-BJP Government reconstituted the Minimum Wages Board on December 19, 2007 giving top priority to the revision of minimum wages.
The Minister said that three tripartite meetings consisting of representatives of employers and workers were held in February, March and April and minimum wages would be shortly revised by the state on the recommendation of the Board. The last revision of wages took place in 2001.
