Nirmala Deshpande's ashes immersed in J

Jammu, May 4 (UNI) Ashes of noted Gandhian Nirmala Deshpande was immersed in 'Suryaputri' river Tawi after public darshans at Dewan-e-Aam, Mubarak Mandi here yesterday.

A contingent of Gandhian workers from J&K, who attended the funeral ceremony at New Delhi, decided that the ashes of Nirmala Deshpande will be immersed in various rivers of the state, including Ravi (Kathua), Tawi (Jammu), Devak (Udhampur), Chenab (Ramban), Jhelum (Srinagar), Sita Haran (flowing spring at Budgam) and Sindh river.

Ashes of Nirmala Deshpande were brought to Jammu by Akhil Bharat Rachnatmak Samaj state chief S P Varma.

A nominated Rajya Sabha Member, Nirmala Deshpande had espoused the cause of peace and universal brotherhood for six decades at the national and international levels.
