IGNOU announce admissions for B Sc (Nautical Science)

New Delhi, May 4 (UNI) The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), Mumbai today announced admissions to BSc (Nautical Science) programme commencing August 1, 2008.

This programme of IGNOU, developed in collaboration with the DGS, is aimed at orienting the cadets for an equivalent life at sea by providing vocationally oriented education and training so as to help them become officers in the Merchant Navy.

The eligibility conditions are 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) with not less than 55 per cent marks in PCM aggregate from a recognised Board or with Physics as an individual subject in any one of the years of BSc with not less than 50 per cent marks in the final year of BSc from a recognised University provided that the candidate must have passed 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) from a recognised Board OR BE/BTech Degree from IIT or from a college/University recognised by AICTE/ UGC/ DEC Further, he or she should have passed with not less than 50 per cent marks in English as a subject, at either 10th or 12th standard or in a Degree course, conducted by a Board or any University.

Candidates will be selected on the basis of an Entrance Test (OPENNET).

The Entrance Test will be held on June 15.

The programme will be offered through selected training institutes approved by DGS and IGNOU.

Live interaction with prospective candidates shall be on May 12.

There shall be a live interaction session with prospective candidates on Gyan Darshan-2 TV Channel (the Teleconferencing channel of IGNOU on May 12.

Last Date for submission of Application is May 27.

As per the latest guidelines issued by the DG Shipping, Mumbai, it is now mandatory for all the candidates to qualify in OPENNET to seek admission in BSc (Nautical Science) programme of IGNOU-DGS, irrespective of whether their candidature is sponsored by a Shipping Company or their Manning Agents or not.
