Srinagar, May 4 (UNI) After witnessing hottest 29.5 degrees Celsius maximum temperature of the summer so far yesterday, cloudy weather in the valley brought smile on the faces of locals and tourists this afternoon.

Today too the maximum temperature was 23.5 degree at 1430 hrs, which was 1.5 degree above normal, but cloudy weather in the afternoon brings some relief from the heat wave sweeping the valley for the past couple of days.

Yesterday, the maximum temperature was recorded 29.5 degrees C, which was 7.5 degree above normal. However, the minimum was near normal.

The water level in river Jehlum and its tributaries had increased as snow on the hills had started melting due to above normal day temperature.

There were reports of rainfall in upper reaches, including holy Amarnath cave and its periphery, Sheshnag and Mahaguns.

It said the draught condition has threatened the Apricots and other crops besides causing water shortage.
