Water level shoots up in MP town

Ashoknagar, MP, May 3 (UNI) The water level shot up by three to eight feet today in more than a 100 stepwells at this district's tourist spot Chanderi where people flocked to the stepwells on hearing of the phenomenon.

Confirming the development, Chanderi's Sub-Divisional Officer Vincent Lakda said the District Collector was alerted.

''Bhopal's Regional Meteorological Centre Director D P Dubey was informed,'' said Collector Geeta Mishra.

Until yesterday, Chanderi was facing a water crisis as the level had declined in stepwells. However, a rise of six to eight feet was recorded in Battisi Baori, Phoota Kuan, Chugni Baori, Moosa Baori and Taitan Baori. The Bisar Baori, which had dried up, now has three feet of water.
