No takers for farm produce as government cracks down on hoarders

Nagpur, May 3 : Farmers in Nagpur are facing a tough time as traders have stopped buying their produce.

In order to check inflation, the government has been conducting raids on traders hoarding foodgrain stocks. As a result, traders have now stopped buying foodgrain from the farmers.

"It has been three-four days since we brought our foodgrain stocks here. Ever since the government brought down prices, we have been facing problems. Our foodgrain stocks are lying here for the past five-six days, but we have not been able to sell the stored produce," said Abdul Hakim, a farmer.

Tonnes of foodgrains are lying in the market without being sold. Traders are either not buying the foodgrains or are willing to pay extremely low prices.

"Our demand is that we should be able to sell the foodgrain stocks. We should get the right price for our produce," said Rai Singh Thakur, another farmer.

The farmers are a worried lot as they are finding it difficult to make both ends meet with no takers for their produce.
