States most contain price hike: Minister
Kozhikode, May 3 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V Narayanaswamy today said it was the duty of the State Governments to contain the hike in the prices of essential commodities.
Speaking in a function here, the Minister said the role of the Centre was to extend help to the State Goverments to control the prices.
However, 50 per cent of the foodgrains allotted by the Centre had not reached the genuine customers.
Stating that the Union Government was taking necessary steps to arrest the hike in the prices of essential commodities, he said the State Government had the responsibility to enact proper legislation in this regard.
He termed as 'baseless' the reports that India was facing a food shortage.
